My 05 is FI and if Im correct, it's not a full 5 gallon tank that we have. I don't like that the idiot light comes on so darn early when I have another hour or so of riding that I can do. Oh, and no reserve to "flip" over to.
Hey Craig,
Can you send me a pic of the top of your dash with that speedometer, that is too cool. I'm doing a project on a 2077 FXD and was wondering if that would work
My bike did the sputter the other day, stalled out before I realized what was happening as I've got no gas gauge. Put it in aux. and went to the nearest station. 145 miles on 4.8 gallons. That's only 30 MPG. I have been running leaner for the cold (rode when ever I could this winter).
When I rode mine home from NJ, I averaged about 43 mpg over 3000+ mi. Best was eastern OR, slower speeds, out of the mountains & fairly flat - 49 mpg. Worse was 38 when I had to buy 89 octane (no super option). When I had the option of 93 octane, mileage was better than w/ 91. Kept my speed around 75 most of the time. Followed some cages from Twin Falls to Boise, never saw below 90, still got 40 mpg on that tank . Just as good as a Smart Car, & safer too!!!
My Deuce lights the low fuel light between 125 & 135 miles, depending on the situation. This seems to hold true either at 70mph or riding 2 up. This makes it around 45 mpg. The tank is listed as 4.7 gallons.
If I'm just loafing along pretty leisurely on the back roads it does a bit better.
Up to 46-48 mpg.
What's interesting is that a buddy has a Deuce, except his is the carb'd model. Neither of our bikes have had any engine mods other than he's running Big Shot pipes and had his carb rejetted. I'm running the Propipe, SE A/C, and the PCIII tuner. His bike regularly goes to 180 miles before the low fuel light comes on. We both have very similar riding styles as well. I don't understand why the big difference but long ago gave up worrying about it. It is what it is.

Likely the difference is simply the wacko MoCo fuel gauge XDDD. Only way to know for sure is use to compare the fuel used against the Trip meter
(Fuel added at Fillup) / (miles traveled per the tripo)
