Anybody wrap there pipes with heat shields still on?
I found a deal on a 2 into 1 pipe but its chrome (don't care for chrome). I was wondering if anyone runs a pipe with the heat shields with wrap over the top of the shields, yeah it defeats the purpose but its for looks then anything. Also have heard wraps have ill effects on pipes makes them more prone to cracking. I was thinking if you wrapped the heat shields if that would lessen the cracking problem? thanks

What about powder coating?

That is what I have been wanting to do... Have you noticed any difference at all? I am liking the looks, and hoping it will help keep my leg cooler this summer. Can you get us a closer picture of the wrap job? Thanks...Kevin |

also a over shield wrapper here
but my tech friend warns of cracking any of you having a cracked pipe yet? Would be nice if we had updates based on years the wraps are on, miles ridden I'll start wrap installed : 2 weeks miles ridden : 1000 no crack! |
There are a lot of stories about Thunderheaders (in particular) cracking after being wrapped. I think the material the pipe is made of has a lot to do with it.
I had a stainless D&D wrapped for about 30,000 miles with no issues at all. When I took the wrap back off, it looks the same. I don't think I'd wrap a pipe made of mild steel unless you plan on replacing within a year or two. -G |
