Default SE Slip-Ons w/ Black Heat Shields?

Has anyone ever seen black heat shields on chrome pipes? I've seen the opposite many times. Looking for something different. I like the look of wrapped pipes but wantsomething more permanent.

Attached a pic of my '06 Bob w/o the shields (they're at the powder coater). If anyone has done this - please post a pic. I'll make sure to do likewise as soon as I get mine reinstalled.

I'm interested in powdercoating my heat shields as well.

Two questions:

1. Was it difficult taking them off? It looks like they are just held on with screws, but since I don't have a service manual, I wasn't sure.

2. Is there a special type of powdercoating for hot parts? The reason I ask is, a friend of mine who does powdercoating has offered to do mine. Problem is, his main business is powdercoating metal outdoor furniture. Not sure if that process is right for an exhaust pipe... even if it's really just a heat shield, you know?

they are held on with 3 hose clamps per shield very easy to take off...

mine are off now and i took 3m scuff pads to them and painted them with high heat bbq black spray paint...

is good up to temps of 1300deg... they look awesome and have the flat black look just like my pipes..i will post some pics

as soon as the paint dries good and its not raining and i get them back on...

3m scuff pads, huh? Interesting.

How much did they rough up the chrome?

Yeah, same here. I'd like to know how much the chrome has to be roughed up for the paint to stick?

I have also been kicking around the idea of getting my heat shields either powder coated or ceramic coated black.
Right now I'm running Rinehart slip-ons with black wraps. I think the black heat shields will look good since the Rineharts have black anodized
end caps. I look forward to seeing yours Bigmo.

Risdo,

There a sinch to get off - held on by hose clamps. I'm going to apply masking tape to the edges when I put them back on; to avoid and scatches, etc. My powder coater media blasts the material first, before applying the powder coat. Have had several itmes coated w/o any problems other than my own stupidity (hence the masking tape!).

I don't see a heat issue w/ coating the heat shields; the pipes would be a different story and would more than likely need to be cermic coated. The shields don't actually makke contact w/ the pipes...

Can't wait to see the pics. I'll make sure and post mine as soon as they are done.
