Default What type of oil are you using?

So im about to change the all the oil in my 2012 wide glide and im thinking of switching to Amsoil. I have a friend who swears by only using harley oil. Does it really matter? What type/weight are you using? im going to by the service manual so i can comeplete the 1,000 mile service myself. Just dont trust the stealership around here.

I just did my 1000 mile checkup yesterday, Amsoil 20W50 in all 3 holes. Used the HD chrome engine oil filter on my 2012 Superglide.

Mobil One 20w50 V-Twin in primary and engine. Lucas 80w90 in Transmission. There will be alot of opinions on this subject, just change at correct intervals and all will be well.

A friend of mine and fellow forum member told me that amsoil actually made his bike run about 10-15 degrees cooler than the syn3. He has a digital thermometer that he used to measure both. If that's the case, I'd go with the amsoil.

There are guys in the forum who are running conventional and have over 100000 miles on their bikes so it all honesty it's not the brand or whether or not it's synthetic,it's the maintenance aspect that is important.
If you want to use amsoil by all means use it. It's a top quality product, and will serve you well. Change it every 5000 miles and your bike will never have an oil related issue.
I use shockproof heavy by red line in my tranny. A gear oil in the tranny is what you want, not engine oil. Gear oil is made for just this type of application.
I use rotella t 15w-40 in the primary. The primary needs a JASO stamped fluid for the wet clutch. And the primary doesn't need an expensive synthetic. I've used rotella for years in my shared sump bikes and never had a clutch or any oil related issue. Remember JASO for the primary.
I used mobil 1,amsoil,royal purple and good old pennzoil in the engine. The mobil 1 made my top end sound like a can filled with ball bearings,so I won't be using it anymore but any name brand oil, changed regularly will keep your motor running many many miles.
There is no magic oil to make your engine last forever. Any oil will do,and change it according to Harleys recommendations. 5000 miles for synthetic,3000 miles for conventional. These intervals are likely not pushing the oil to the ragged edge, meaning there is likely some life left in the oil however I have learned that these are good maintenance habits, and the math is easy.

A friend of mine started using Amsoil and his bike ran cooler........was about 10 mph faster........the headlight was brighter.........his stock seat was more comfortable........his rear tire actually got more tread on it........his gas mileage improved...............and his hair even started growing back!!!!

Some people believe anything...............

ANY good synthetic will make your engine run cooler.............Amsoil doesn't do it any better than several others. The only thing they do better is pyramid sales. It's the "AMWAY" of the oil industry.......reason enough for me to buy something else.

It isn't "pyramid sales", "pyramid scheme", or "pyramid scam". It's a, "triangle of opportunity".
