Happened with a car not the bike. The woman's insurance company only wanted to pay blue book. I called 3 local dealers and every one of the priced my car 2k more. I contacted her insurance and told them what the dealers priced the car at. That I would except that price. They called back in 15min. and said check was in the mail. May not help in your case but I would have a hard time settling for less than what the same bike would sell for.

Thanks man! It will be hard.... I'll do my best not to but, there's just not that many of em with such low miles in as good as condition. I mean I scowered high and low, nationwide, for a year before I lucked into this thing!
Bought it with 3,400 original miles. It's close to 6K now...

Sorry.... Jus super bummed right now.

I know, I know, poor me right.

As stated: Make the insurance company do research on the market value of the bike, find equivalent bikes for sale and get the prices. (don't let them just lowball you on bike value)

This is even when you see FXDX's sell over than used. They go by the blue book. Go to the dealer and have them check the value in the book. Of course the shop will also give you an estimate. If its within a few hundred they will total it. They typically don't adjust for non stock parts either.

Did you have the insurance up the value for any non stock parts. I added $6,000 to value for my 120R and another $3000 for all my non stock parts. Cost more, but not that much. This way they up the value. Worth it in case its ripped off...

That said, you can take the $$$ they give and buy the bike back. That is if the frame is good. Doubt much engine damage so just tins, forks, bars ctl's etc. However, it will have a salvage title so check with Washington on their rules for that. If its salvaged then the value will never recover. This isn't an issue unless you what to sale it of course.

If its repairable frame wise, the parts are mostly available especially the tins, bars, ctl's etc. Forks maybe hard though if you need them. I dumped my FXDX in December and the repair was $5500. and it was only a slow speed (20mph) lay over. Course the shop added to the list anything that was scratch/damaged even though it probably was that way before. Insurance paid for everything less the deductible of course.

I had my tank replaced and just for fun took the old tank along with some used fenders and had a custom paint job done. The shop gave me the tank back for free (it only had scratches on it no dents). The new tank was $1050 and took 3 months to get. The fenders where only $125 each from Colormania - used. That is if you are having them do a paint job otherwise ebay or check nation wide dealer inventory.

Keep us posted on what happens. I have some FXDX parts I bought from a guy doing a full mod to his - a Dyna Light project with inverted forks, custom swing arm, new brakes, stocks etc. Even replaced the tank with a after market one. I have all those parts if you need them. Bars, brakes, a clean tank (needs painting though, but no dents) and various other items which are hard to get. I only wanted a couple of things and the price was right so I bought everything in case I ever needed it. At the time I was going to build a chopper guys FXR, but in the end I just put a 120R in my FXDX and called it good

Finally - glad you are OK. Shame a cager can wreak you day and maybe your no longer made FXDX.

WOW! Unreal man! Thanks for all the info!
You know, I had been meaning to call the ins. co to up the value due to mods, never did tho. My guy tells me that it WILL be considered if totaled out. That, of course, first they will try to, or estimate the price of, bringing it back to the condition and state it was in.

But yeah, it's mostly controls, tins and the engine covers, so just maybe it won't get 'totaled'.

...just maybe.

Damn dude... Damn.... So glad you're ok though bro.. Its a good feeling when you can stand up and all your body parts work mostly, correctly..

All I could do was, thank God, when I stood up after a motorcyle wreck a few years ago.. My wreck was my fault though so nobody to blame but me. I had to pick the bike up as fast as I could and roll start it down a hill and ride as fast as could to get out of the area before I got a ticket, with my wheel pointing one way and my clip-ons pointing the other way and a f'd up shoulder,lol..

Good luck with insurance, hope you get what you need for it..

That reminds me,I gotta get insurance.. My bike us paid for so I would lose it all.. Time to get searching.
