Color change ideas
1 Attachment(s)
Thinking about changing the color of the tins on my FXD. I have a painter buddy that owes me a favor so all I'll have to do is pay for the paint. I like Sedona Orange but I have another buddy with a Street Glide painted that color and don't want to look like twins running down the road. I like flat black (don't care for gloss black) but want something just a little different and not crazy. Ideas, besides a rainbow paint job that I know will be suggested? :icon_screwy: :D

I think the blue looks sick, but for something different I always liked flat white.
|
This would be my color of choice

I also like the blue, but if you really want to change it up Flat black always looks good but a pearl white would be pretty sweet also.
|
Not a big fan of white actually but good idea. dhook57, that silver is sweet.

I always liked the color I first switched to when I abandoned my stock Vivid Black tins ...
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/membe...7-gedc0447.jpg https://www.hdforums.com/forum/membe...6-gedc0445.jpg The color is called Platinum Bronze Metallic (color code A53) ... a BMW color ... I had the tins redone in powdercoat and there wasn't a powder match, so I got a lighter color now ... a really close match to the current color is the VW color Moon Rock Grey ... I liked the subtle hint of olive ... without looking like I was going for a military theme ... I also like Joe Knapp's color of blue ... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/membe...81-2ngsl4y.jpg Good luck picking a color ... R/ 'Chop |
if you dig the orange we have formulated the same blue as on my bike but also in orange and green... here is a shot of the green

Consider driving around new car lots and looking at colors, if you find one you like the name of the color will be on the window sticker, and you can see what it actually looks like on a panel.
My bike's getting painted Ford Tuxedo Black this winter... |

I think my bike is Dodge Patriot Blue ('06) code B5; anyhow, I've had two pieces added/repainted on the bike and a perfect match was easy...I second the automotive color choice.
|
My bike was the same blue as yours and painted it first chance I got

What kind of fairing is that on your ride? |
When I change the color on my bike it will be a distressed Odie green (military green). I love that color.
|
Keep in mind that some colors look better with the black engine. You need something that will really work with the silver. I like Joe's green and the color that Surforchop had at first.
|
go with bright red, pearl white, or maybe orange powder like joes bike but in orange
|
Mine was denim black. Looked good, but too common. I did mine in a olive green with matte clear overcoat. To each his own.
I think Reindeer had some good advice.

In my opinions if you go with that color you should make it a two tone with some black

Also really like the Atomic Orange Metallic from GM. It's not too close to my buddies Sedona Orange.
|
Say Joe, do you have a sample of anything with the orange on it?
|
I like the red My bike is a ford red fire metallic

I agree 100%. I do like green but Joe's green really doesn't trip my trigger. I don't know if this gasser green with pearl would look good or not. Maybe this and black in some type of 2 tone?

I would find a sweet shade of orange. Orange is an H-D color and for some reason I dont see many Harleys with orange on them. They seem to have a different variation of a shade of orange every year. Sedona Orange was in 2010 and wont be made again because of the tsunami in Japan where the paint was made, loved that color. I liked last years tequilla sunrise orange, lots of metallic/flake in it. You could go bright or dark, gloss or flat, and it will look sweet with lots of Chrome or lots of black or any variation of it all.
I liked 2012's bright orange on the Fatbob but would never buy it. After seeing "Montanimal"s Fatbob with black pipes and black apes he just did, I wish I had gotten orange instead of my Denim Black. Long story short I vote you find a custom shade or Orange or Red and do black accents like pipes and/or bars. |

Don't believe in that school of thought myself. I walk under ladders, break mirrors and kill black cats too.
Never ride with this guy... Bad luck. |
Im having the same issue with my bike. Its the original Diamond Ice and have been thinking about changing the color as well.
As much as I like the look of an all black bike...Im not sure if I would dig it after a couple of months. Really dig crimson13 red bike. |

this is my 04 deuce it was vivid black and i couldnt wait to change the color, its Cobalt blue with black and white fire. I have always been a sucker for BLUE.http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...68517433_n.jpg

you dont have to stick with just a straight color, i know mine stands out from others around which is what i wanted.
|
Id say buy a set of tins and get those painted. PBP is a limited color and you dont see it much. They only made a few bikes solid PBP. Love that color. Had to wait for 5 months extra cause I wanted that color.

When I finally repaint my bike I plan on blacking out everything except the tins, which I plan on painting a dark grey- same setup as JRK, just grey instead of blue.
|
I'm an Arctic Cat guy so of course I like green. Sending you a PM about the orange.
|
you could alsways go with synergy green. mine is got to have it green and a tri coat. the synergy is the camaro color and mine is the mustang. i dont think synergy is a tri coat and like someone already said an automotive color is good for color matching. if you have one fender damaged and have to paint one panel again its good to have an easy match. my phone just does not do justice for the paint. google 2013 got to have it green mustang and check it out.
|
Yours is one of my favorites for sure. That red is right on the money with the Iron badges.
