Can you make a Super Glide into a Wide Glide with just new rear fender ,and front end like new forks, and triple trees ? Or are the frames different ? I know the gas tank and wheels are different . I really like the look of the wide glide and should of bought one in the first place ,but I'm just wondering if it's something fairly easy to do rather then trade in one bike for the other and loose more money then it could take to do a conversion.
First thought...You also have a lot of gauges and wiring to do, plus change the tank and add a lot of chrome.
Doesn't sound cheap and the resell value might be even less than for a stock Super Glide, since some wouldn't trust the work.
I also have a Super Glide. Used to wish that I'd bought a Low Rider and now want a Street Bob. So many bikes...so little money. Art
sell your superglide real cheap "call me" and go buy what you wanted. I would not change your bike unless you intend to keep it forever, as others have said, if you try to sell it later they may not trust your work..And if you have a shop do it, well, you may as well trade it in for a new WG. which ever way you go, good luck.
I don't really plan on changing everything out ,just a bobtail fender, and the front end. Just wanted to know if the increase of rake is just in the triple trees ,or is any the change in the frame , in other words would the wide glide forks and triple trees just bolt right into the Super Glide frame ? I've seen plenty of wide glide kits for Sportsters but none for the super glide.
I believe the rake is in the neck, not the triple trees. No matter though, you can just by some wide or mid-glide trees for your existing bike. You won't have the rake, but you'll have the wider front end.
I thought you were going to quit riding. I'm glad you're reconsidering.
