Windshield Question

I have question. I was given a nice HD windshield that came off a 2005 FXD with the smaller diameter fork legs. I have a 2011 FXDC with the larger legs. Is there a mounting kit that I can swap out to make this shield fit my fork legs, or is it just useless?

Nobody?

If you have the quick detach clamps on that shield, you could buy the 49mm clamps and then you are all set

If I'm not mistaken the whole front end is narrower not just the forks. Which would bring the clamps in and nothing would line up.

That sucks. I was able to take my windshield from my 12' sportster 1200c,with the wider front end, and just change the clamps to make it work my 09' LR.

I measured my HD Quick-Detach windshield (2006 FXDi35 with 49mm forks). It is exactly 11.5" from bracket to bracket where the fork clamps attach. If the measurement is the same for your windshield, it should work with the 49mm brackets.

I don't think it will, however, I wasn't sure and wanted to give you something concrete to go on.

There are washers/spacers between the brackets and braces. If your measurements are similar to mine, you might have to buy the right size washers for it to work.

Good Luck

Unless you drill out holes in the shield itself....which the old holes would sit under the hardware and remain unseen........maybe

Well, for the price of the new mounting hardware and the work involved, which may or may not be successful, I think I'll just sell it and use the $$$ to buy a used one that fits my bike. I'm not even sure I want a windshield. This one was given to me, so I took it, thinking I'd use it just to try it out.

That's probably your best bet. A used quick detach HD windshield sells for right around $150 pretty much across the board. If you have it you'll more than likely use it. They're great for ridin on the highway.
