07 FXDL doesn't run
 

Having issues with my Low Rider thought maybe someone here might have some ideas.

Tried to start it this morning and got coughing, wheezing, and a backfire. Not me, the bike. It does this occasionally so I turned off the ignition and waited for about 15 seconds and tried again. Since then the engine fires right up, runs for 3-4 seconds and stops. If I try to work the throttle a little or a lot, it still dies.

So far I have:
checked battery connections and grounds, all look good
checked spark plugs and wires, no problems
disconnected the connector for the ECM and plugged it back in thinking maybe bad connection
did the same with turn signal module
pulled ALL fuses and checked them, all good
replaced both relays in the electrical box
replaced the crank position sensor
verified throttle position sensor reading by watching it on PV while twisting the throttle
pulled IAC and verified operation by turning the run switch on and off, moves back and forth no problems, that IAC was a b!tch to remove BTW
removed and checked nuetral switch, ok
removed and looked at the vehicle speed sensor, not sure if there is a way to test it

I checked DTC's, about every 20 start attempts it throws a code U1016:
U1016 Loss of ECM Vehicle Speed, Vehicle Inhibit Motion or Powertrain Security Status TSM/TSSM
U1016 Loss of ICM/ECM Serial Data Instruments
Not sure if this has anything to do with the problem or not.

Suggestions?

Apparently I had a gas problem.

The hose from the the fuel pump output to the filter inside the tank had split. Cut off the damaged part and put on a worm clamp and runs just fine.

The three main things to always check first, air, fuel, ignition/spark...

yeah, and I thought about fuel problems early on but I heard the pump running and figured all was good. I couldn't find a schroeder valve or decent way to connect a guage to test fuel pressure.
