Dipstick Question

Hi all, I have an 05 FXDCI and I can't for the life of me remove the f'n dipstick. I bought the bike used, but I assume it is the stock dipstick. It is chrome with a knurled edge and when I attempt to unscrew it the cap simply spins freely in both directions. It doesn't get tighter or more loose, and it honestly doesn't feel as though it is threaded into anything at all, if anything it feels like it is seated in a very firm rubber mount. Am I just a moron who doesn't know how to unscrew his oil filler cap?

I believe that year works like a cork and does not actually screw in. Try it when its hot and wiggle it out back and forth. Once you get it out I would replace it

depends on your definition of moron

apex_predator 05-19-2013 02:30 PM

I don't have any problem defining asshole.

If you look at the link, it looks like according to the fitment specs up to 2006 the oil dipstick just pops in and out. There is no threads, just rubber gasket that keeps the dipstick in the filler tube.

Hey, you asked.

rooti 05-19-2013 04:38 PM

and he told u

I only asked why he asked "Am I just a moron who doesn't know how to unscrew his oil filler cap?". Nothing more. The dictionary definition of moron is "a very stupid person". Had he asked, "am I a very stupid person", I would have said, "no, you're an ignorant person". Now the dictionary definition of ignorant, which the OP is in this case is "destitute of knowledge". As for defining asshole as a "detestable person", that I am. In fact, I think I'm going to take on the new name on HDF as asshole#1.
