Default tman 590 cams in a dyna?

anyone here running the tman 590 cams?

ive been told my woods tw6-6 isn't enough cam for a 106 with headwork

the woods tw6-6 has a .510 lift, and the tman 590 has a .590 lift

the cams in my 96" put out 93 hp and 98 tq and figured id get at least 115 hp & tq with the 106 but if I can drop in a 590 to get 115-125 hp & tq that's a no brainer.

what do you guys think?

Woods 8, or maybe the new 777 or 888, depends on where you want the torque and how you ride. The 8 comes on pretty early and builds power all the way till redline. I am not familiar with the 590 but, I would look for a dyno sheet to see where the torque is. I tend to agree though that you will get better results with a more aggressive cam than the 6. I went from a Wood 7 to 8 when I did my build. Moved the torque curve to the right a little but more power all around and like I said right through rev limit. When you do your heads, know which cam you are going with because they should set up the heads to match the cam.

What are the other details of the setup? What kind of head work? What kind of 106 is this? Bore/stroke? How do you ride it? Personally in a dyna I like a setup that makes at least square numbers or more hp than torque, and makes power to 6500. I personally haven't run a 590 but it's a proven performer. The 888 that wood suggested is very similar with a tad less lift. S&S 585, Andrews 67 and some others would be in the same ball park too. All would like around 10.5-10.7:1 compression.

Wait, let me get this straight. You talked to Bob Woods, who designs some of the most powerful cams for a twin cam and you're asking the opinion of a bunch of shade trees?

Seems like you have your answer.

I wouldn't call it major headwork but he will be matching ports, a 3 angle valve job, compression releases etc I can't afford a top 1200 dollar race port and polish.

I told wink I wanted to run around a 575-590 lift since the 510 wasn't sufficient.
So well see on Tuesday when I pick em up.

Right... and T.R has no idea what he's doing... shocking that Bob wood suggested a wood cam. Wish I knew a long time ago that his were the only cams that work, things would be so much easier.

It's not just about the lift, there's many other factors to cam choice. Are you at least doing a 1.900 intake valve or something in the heads or just a clean up? You're not going to get the full benefits of a real set of cams with the stock valve, restrictive heads.

Isn't that what a forum is for? He knows his ****, when I mentioned the TMan 590's he said the 888's are a better cam

And this is why I'm asking for opinions about the 590, woods is t the only performer out there

LOL, I did NOT discredit TR! I made no mention of his name anywhere And I definitely did NOT say that Woods was the only cam that worked. Engrish?

The OP said he talked with Woods, and then asked our opinion. If you read the forum, you know that 90% of the people in here still think the SE 255 is the cam to have. I sure as hell wouldn't be asking THIS forum what cam to put in my motor...
