Default Anouther cam question for all you motorheads

So I have a 07 lowrider got it used it has a high flow air cleaner race tuner quickie pushrods a rinehart 2-1 exhaust an 203 cams. Oh yea its the 96ci engine The bike runs great but the previous owner (my father inlaw) said he wished he would of put 255 cams in it. He said it would give it more usable torque. The HD dealers that installed all this says no the 203 is better. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, I know if it ain't broke don't fix it but MORE TORQUE COME ON LOL.. THXS ALL

The 255 is definitely a low rpm/torque cam. Unless you do 2 up riding all the time, I think you could find a better choice especially for a relatively light Harley. Just use the "Search" feature and explore some of the cam threads.

The 255 will fall on its face around 4k rpms the cam you have is much better suited for the bike ie light bike vs bagger, than the 255s. But if you ride very conservatively and rarely go beyond 4k rpms the 255 may work for you. Now if you want more usable TQ over a wider range and more HP checkout Tman cams the Tman 555 torqester or a 600 would really open your eyes with a little more compression. Good thing about Tman cams is they make great power and are very quiet compared to other cams out there. Check out TMan Performance

"Fall on it's face" is a bit dramatic. It still produces more torque and power than stock through redline. By a good amount. I ride past 4k a lot and have no issues. Sure, there are power cams that produce more power in the upper range, but the sacrifice low RPM torque compared to the 255.

The 255 is a good streetable cam. Just shift earlier for speed.

If you're drag racing or riding a lot past 90 MPH, then get a power cam.

Stage 1 with SE 255 here and my dyno came out at 86 HP/104 torque. The power curve suits my riding style perfectly which is mostly freeway/lane splitting under 4000 rpm. I don't need to downshift to get out of somebody's way in a hurry while cruising at 80(ish).

Can't beat Wood cams for torque. The TW-222 cams make awesome torque down low, and run out very nice as well. makes power 2,000-6,000 rpms.
Another good choice for a torque cam is the Andrews 48H. They run out nice as well.
The SE 255 cams make a lot of heat due to their profile & they don't run out well at all. An early intake closing will make good torque, but the 255s close too early to make any descent power above 4k rpms. There are many better choices...particularly the two mentioned above.
