Dyna mid shifter shaft
Does anybody know how to remove mid shifter shaft from 2011 fxdsc with out pulling all ,the primarys clutch chain compensater? Went to forward controls and would like to clean it up.:icon_lurk5:

I think your only option is to cover it with a plug, but I could be wrong.

There is a write up on this somewhere around here already.
In essence you cut it with a saw blade between the primary and the tranny/engine area. I used a saw blade with some tape around one end so I could hold on to it. The forward control kit should then come with a plug to pop in the remaining hole where the shaft was. |
You can cut the shaft from the back then cap the hole.
Some ppl do it the hard way remove everything, I don't understand the point. You don't even have to remove the outer primary cover, I have done that. Follow this post https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...g-primary.html

I wish you were here when I did mine 128auto...
About 2 seconds after I removed the cover I asked myself why I did that....lol |
Coz I used the search function lol. We all learn it the hard way, don't we? LOL

I did mine this way also but I put tape on both ends to keep from scratching. It did wear my fingers out pretty good but still a lot easier than removing primary.
|
I also used a saw blade.

Are you going to sell your mids? If so I might be interested. I want mid mount pegs for a secondary spot to rest my feet on longer rides.
|
Since you said that you already went to mids, I assume you're just talking about covering the hole in the outer for cosmetic reasons? A little cap should have come with the forward kit. You can also get a larger cover that looks pretty good. Shop around for 'inspection cover'. Most will have screws but some have an adhesive back that will work with your bike.
