Question Fuel reserve and actual miliage don't match

Why doesn't my fuel reserve and actual miliage match.
When I fill up my 2013 street bob, the guage reads I have 189 miles of fuel. Now when I ride 25 miles the reserve reads 150 miles left in the tank. I would expect the reserve to read 164. After riding 50 miles the reserve reads 114. . I would expect the reserve to read 139.
What am I missing.?

None of the fuel gauges are accurate.
They will just give you a ballpark idea on fuel levels.
Fill your tank and set the trip odometer.
Run to almost empty and calculate the miles you drove.
Don't drive more then those miles after a fill up and always reset the trip, and you'll be fine.
You're not missing anything, I think you'll be lucky to find anyone who thinks their fuel gauge is accurate.

I would rather have it error in that way than the other. At least you should not run out of gas

It's a shame that EFI bikes don't have tank petcocks with reserve function. I guess manufacturers don't want to spend the extra $2. One more thing I like about my carbed bike. I keep track on my trip odometer but don't have to worry about running out.

Go with the trip odometer, that's the best.

I don't bother with trip odometer. When it gets low, I put fuel in it.
