Well, starting with battery number four, I will try things the way you do. I know a lot of people who hook up the tender and just keep it on. Might as well try it this way.

No. Either there's something else going on (intermittent internal short, for example) or your problem isn't fixed.

I'm glad it was something so simple.

I bought the bike in May 2015. Original battery died on me and was replaced under warranty. Second battery crapped out on me and I replaced it with a Throttle X battery in March 2019. Is this normal to go through three batteries in 5 years and 3 months? Have never experienced this before with any previous motorcycle.

Even if my battery lacked the CCA would that cause it to just shut down while riding it?
did they check your charging voltage?
my 2014 is only on 2nd battery, changed first after 4 years just for peace of mind. the HD alternator is permanent magnet and will charge without exciter voltage. wonder if your voltage regulator is failing?
this is just armchair diagnostics, sounds like there is another issue. may be a good idea to get another tech to check it out.

Hope it turns out to be so but I have a nagging feeling it is not.

Any experience/advice whether to go with stock risers and taller bars or get fixed bars without risers (T bars)? Thanks
Would be nice to hear more from you in this thread.

When you get the bike back I would try to do a lot of trips close to home. Just go ride around the neighborhood or whatever for awhile to see if the issue comes back. Bad battery doesn't seem very consistent with the issue you described. Best not to get stuck far from home.

Hope it is corrected but seems too easy lol

Keep your tender hooked up all the time. That's what it's designed for. You shouldn't be replacing batteries every 15 months...3-5 years is what I get...you may have another issue, as others have stated...something is killing/draining that battery...
