screaming eagle air filter wont hold oil

I have a 2012 fat bob with stock exhaust and screaming eagle air cleaner with k&n air filter. i oil my filter and it turns white within 50 miles. it looks like after i park the bike the exhaust heats up the filter causing the oil to drip off until there is none left. the fat bob has the tommy gun exhaust with openings in the heat shield right below the air filter. i have re oiled the filter 3 times already. im about to go back to a paper filter. this happening to anybody else

I have an S&S 'Teardrop' on my FB with that I spray with K&N oil and the filter stays oiled all the way until cleaning time, which is every 6 months. Not sure why yours dries out so quickly, but perhaps you have a 'defective' bottle of oil?

I'd stop worrying about. For street use you should only need to service it every 50,000 miles.

They are are designed to handle pretty high temps so I'd not worry about yours cooking the oil out either.

The SE AC I had did not require oil, just clean in soapy water and let dry.

Excuse my question if I'm off base...but are you using the K&N red oil?

eafx88 06-29-2014 10:52 AM

i have a k&n filter and im using the red k&n aerosol oil. the filter shouldn't turn white over time especially not so quick. im sure the filter or oil is defective some how I was wondering if anyone had the same problem being the exhaust is so close to the filter

I found that running mine about 1/3 qt low stops the breather tubes from pushing back into the air cleaner. Also, if it is turning white, you may be getting moisture in it. Run it long enough to boil out any moisture---20 min. at speed should do it---just a thought

My filter does the same thing. Turns white pretty fast. I did find that riding it, then oiling it when I get in tends to not last as long as oiling it before the ride.

So forgive the idiocy of my post and not to hijack the thread but I just put a new K&N filter on, I assume that it comes pre-oiled? It is red but I don't feel any oil when I touch it.
