Default Main seal/bearing fun

well noticed a small leak under the bike, got in there to investigate and things kind of steam rolled... I do run a Baker High tq inner primary bearing as well so it is pretty strange that this walked on me... but it is what it is... i rebuilt my trans last year completely and the only bearing i did not replace was the main... go figure! Wanted to toss up some pics to help out the next guy

first needed to get off the sprocket so Tim in the shop here was nice enough to fab this up for me

leaky leaky

easy way to remove the main seal is to drill 2 small holes in it, then screw in some screws a bit, grab the screws with some pliers and pull it out

from there you can see the bearing is shot, thankfully all the ***** where still in place but the internals where all shot

once you get that part off you pull the cover and trap door on the other side, be sure you pull your fill and dip stick so it does not catch the gear pack when you pull them, small tap with a deadblow on the output shaft and you can pull out the gear set

from there i used a bearing install plate and popped the bearing out after the retaining ring was removed

time to replace... just need to get a bearing install tool... ill post as i go

Thanks for sharing this, good pics!

Shudder to think how much this would cost in a shop!

How does the Baker inner primary bearing tie in?

Warp, as stated on their website, "If it walks inboard, it will damage the maindrive gear seal and cause a transmission oil leak. If it walks outboard, it will cause a primary oil leak. Our high torque bearing kit eliminates this condition."

Or get the S&S inner race that has the shoulder on it to prevent it from walking inboard. I replaced my input shaft with the 08+ shaft to prevent this issue.

So all 08+ has that shoulder on the inner race to prevent it from walking inside?

As far as I know. All 07 shafts get upgraded to the 08+ when ordering them. They have a ridge that prevents walk but you can not use the Baker 1 piece either.
