In terms of handling, mids are almost certainly better. In terms of "Harleyness (TM)" they are a bit weird.

Took me a while to get used to the forwards when I bought my Fat Bob as I had never ridden with them before. They are pretty comfortable though - although difficult to lift your *** off the bike if there are any bumps coming up in the road.

All in all, I'd say mids are "better", but forwards are "cooler".

Yeah, no license - no ride.

Any accident - even while technically not your fault all blame would automatically be on you, as you had no permit to be there. It's deffo not an excuse.. just a great level headed thinker. Good luck for the test!

Thanks. And that's exactly right! As tempting as it is to ride I just look at it for now (and work on it). Once I get the permit I can start riding, not 2 up, highway or at night, but at least I can take it around town. My permit/written appt is coming up soon!

I'm giving the factory mids a try right now and I'm loving them. Not sure I'll go with forwards on this bike.

Yeah it is an adjustment when you first start riding with forward controls, but once you get used to them its not bad. I used to actually use the passenger pegs a lot on my sportster when I had that and I was on the highway and didn't need to shift a lot.

I really liked the forwards on the Sportster 48 but they really were not that far up. On the Dyna's they were way too far for me so when I got my Street Bob I had them install the Slightly forward mids (adds 2.5 inches), coupled that with a new seat which moved me back an inch and I feel really good. Can stand up for bumps and legs just a little forward so no cramping. At some point though I'm going to get some frame mounted pegs for highway.

You've done an awesome job with the bike. Which handlebars did you get, they look like the Hollywood ones that come on the Softail Slim. Any reason for the swap, better performance or just didn't like the mini apes?

The bars are wild1 knuckle bars. They sit a little low so I may get 1 inch riser extensions & see how it is (knowing I can send them back). I actually have a brand new set of mini apes (11.5" Santee black) and I may switch to them at some point. About 1 1/2 hours later I can make it look like a different bike. I guess everyone does the mini apes so I tried something different. But you are right, the bars I have on now do look like a softtail slim type bars. Thanks for the compliments.
