Looking at a 2001 Wide Glide. How Much?
Hello! I have been looking for a good used Harley and ran across this one. It's a 2001 Wide Glide with the 88 motor, no EFI, two tone teal and white paint, Screaming Eagle slip ons and a little over 19000 miles on it. Dealer put new tires, a rear brake rotor and the usual used bike inspection stuff to get it ready for sale. I have taken it for a test drive and it rode fine with no issues. Their original price was $8995 plus tax etc... Talked with the dealership about price and the lowest they would go was $9000 out the door. I was thinking more like $8000. Am I wrong about $8000 or is their price a good deal?
Thanks!

low miles
that is low miles!. I bought my 01 FXDWG about 6 months ago for $5500 but it had 55k miles, really well maintained and the prior owner was into touring America on the thing so the miles are mostly highway. these are "GREAT!" bikes as they are carbed, good cranks and simple to maintain. it's only money so don't get to hung up on "your price". if you want it, just buy it and be done with it. trust me, if you don't get it someone else will.

base your decision on how well you like the bike, consider..
1. do you want to accessorize it & what extras are already on it?
2. do you like the paint? Do you like the feel, ride & seating position?
3. is the price reasonable?
the good thing about buying at a dealer is that you can get a Harley warranty & there is financing available, but if your paying cash you may want to look around. Sure you can find a better deal privately, but the dealer does give you the white glove service.
Of course you don't have to buy the first one you see, there are bikes everywhere,
I bought a 03 wide glide about a month ago, no regrets so far. noting wrong with carbed bikes or the 88, it has plenty of power & it cruises fine on the interstate. lots of power, I don't even like to take it above 4500 rpm because it doe shave a lot of power. I would like to have a 6th gear for better mpg, but its not really needed.

$9,000 seems a tad high but not outrageous. Depends on whether you want to keep looking or not. Are you talking with the right guy (sales manager versus salesman) at the dealership? Are you a good negotiator? Get them to throw in something you want added to the bike (seat, covers, etc.) A year ago I paid just over $7K for an '04 Low Rider with 15K. The independent shop had replaced tires and brakes.
