Garmin Zumo - DIY Charge-only cradle
Gents,
Just picked up a Zumo 595LM for my '16 RK...and wasn't too thrilled w/the motorcycle cradle. I guess if it was a SG or something, I'd be OK with hard wiring - but w/BT the speaker connections were pointless.
So I was inspired by this thread over at ADV:
http://advrider.com/index.php?thread...wiring.976094/
But I had a slightly different idea. The zumo comes w/two cradles: One that is motorcycle specific, and one that's car specific. The car specific one has a USB charger built in, but also a speaker and a small ram ball mount which isn't compatible with my techmount. I figured I could remove the USB circuitry from the car mount, and wire it into the power socket on the motorcycle mount...So that's what I did.
I first removed a few SMD's from the car mount and cut out the USB female port. I then soldered the pin connector from the motorcycle mount to it:
You can see how it fits into place here:
From that point it was easy...Just mixed up some 5mins epoxy and sealed it all up.
Gave it a quick test and it's all good to go.
Hope this helps!
