Angry Electrical warning light-intermittent.

2013 Slim-12000 miles. Scoot was hard to start today, once fired ran fine. Running 80mph on the highway, bike cut out on me twice. After cutting out, red electrical warning light came on for about 5 minutes, went off. Scoot running fine. Checked for fault codes-none. Red light has come on, then goes back off a couple of times, but it never quit like that and usually fires on the first shot. If i had a carb, I would say vapor lock, but this is FI. I am changing plugs here shortly and adding a little fuel injection cleaner. This has happened before and after I installed my fuelpak. I am thinking (hoping) I got some bad gas and fouled a plug. I just changed both rear bulbs, because I found out my whip was activating my brake switch while going down the road. That situation has been rectified. Everything works and runs fine. I hope to hell it ain't the fuel filter. Anyone else experience this?

I would check the voltage regulator first and then the battery charge level. Maybe the voltage regulator cut out on you while riding and the battery light was indicating a low battery indication. If both checks pass then check the stator (all three phases) to see if you may have an AC generation issue.

Alright here's what I found. A piece of freakin' dirt in the vent portion of the gas cap. Put on 85 miles today after changing plugs, removing my accel super coil, back to stock. Ran fine until I tried to leave the HD dealer. Started right up, but upon clutch release it would die. 3 times in a row, quite embarrassing. Ran fine for the next 60 miles. Got home changed my levers to address the 'electrical' problem. Installed new plugs and fired up. Ran for a few seconds and died. Removed my gas cap, re-fired and ran fine. As stated above, I found a piece of dirt in the gas cap vent. 2 separate issues-red electrical light coming on because whip warped my brake lever just enough to cause malfunction. I have been around HD's for roughly 45 years and my original thought of vapor lock was somewhat correct. Our gas caps are vented for a reason. If problem was with charging system, the charging system idiot light would have came on and there would be a code thrown. If you have a stator problem, you will smell it. Piece of dirt in the vent portion of the gas cap----who would have thunk it. Appreciate your replies.

Smile Update to electrical problems.

I was completely wrong with my diagnosis. Removed the fuelpak, no issues whatsoever. No more aftermarket for my scoot. Will re-map with Screamin' Eagle. No more problems.
