Default B1123: lt. turn signal short to ground.

I stopped by my local HD today and asked about an issue my 09 FLHX is having. Red key is on, lt. Turn signals are on but don't blink (green arrow does not blink either). Rt. Side only blinks when hazards are on. I swapped bulbs front and back from left to right side, same issue on left side still.

HD said possible TSM but they would need to run diagnostics, quoted me $500 if it was TSM.

I got home and pulled the codes myself and got B1123. Lt. Turn signal short to ground, which to me sounds different than what HD thought.

is this something a guy with no electrical knowledge can tackle, any tips on what to look for, do, where to start?

This is is my first HD, I've wanted one since I was 15 (I'm 34). Part of my excitement is wanting to do the work (that I'm capable of doing) myself.

First thing I would do is remove the light bulb, disconnect the TSSM/TSM and check if you have a short to ground on both the front and rear light (most likely would be in the rear harness if it does indeed have a short). That would be my starting point. if you do have a short look for a bare spot on the violet wire, this is the power feed wire for the left turn signal both front and rear. You could have a issue with the circuit board behind your brake light, I would look at that to see if you have a short across the termials there.

could it be something as simple as an exposed section of wire in the left handlebar?

if you have a SHORT to GRND..it would blow a fuse... unless that terminology is used differently. ..

Small short to ground may not take enough power to blow the fuse whereas a dead short will.

So I figured this out (on my own) yesterday. I had given up, and the local hd mechanic was at a loss.

I had had the seat off and noticed an aftermarket harness designed to turn the blinkers into running lights, it was installed still so I pulled it. I reconnected the 2 pieces without the bridge and bam! No more code, blinkers function fine, and I can buy a new bridge for 75 bucks if I choose!

I want to say thank you. I was having this same issue and sure enough I did the same thing and bam everything works as it suppose to. Good stuff, this is why I love forums like this.
