Default Which voltage regulator for shovelhead?

I have a shovel that needs a new voltage regulator. The bike is titled as a 1975 FLH. When I look up the parts it shows a 4 prong plug on the regulator and says it fits 1970-1975 FLH. But the regulator on my bike is a 2 prong. I'm guessing the motor must be newer than a 1975? Do you think it would be safe to say that I need a voltage regulator from the 1976-1978 FLH model which is 2 prong? What are the differences between the 2 other than the number of prongs in the plug? Thanks in advance.

Harley starts making new model-year bikes late the year before. In other words your bike could be a 1976 model, but made during the late months of 1975. H-D still does that - there are plenty of threads already about 2018 models, even though it is only July 2017! The first 2018 models will soon be on the road. If your bike is 2-prong, then use an '76 VR - an alternative is that a PO has upgraded to later spec parts.
