While driving down the 15 my license plate and tail light bracket came off and just left the wires, I got the bracket back and rode home before dark but after a while of riding my headlight went out. I'm not sure where to start to get both going again. Or why my headlamp decided to go out as well

Sounds like evil road gremlins, did you lose your bell as well? Try isolating them separate, they are most likely not related.

 

Do one thing at a time and start with what you know, which is that your tail light came off. Refit it and see if that works as it should. Then investigate the headlight! We're lookin' over ya shoulder......
