re-wiring headlight
Hi all,
First post here on the HD Forums! I have gotten a ton of great information and help from this forum, but can't seem to find what I am looking for this time around... I have a 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster 883XL that I am converting from a chopper into city scrambler. I am currently trying to switch out the 4" headlight shell for a 5.75" headlight shell but don't know where to start as far as re-wiring.
I would like to re-wire so I can use a 3 prong plug-in headlight in the new 5.75" shell. I have attached a photo of the current headlight set-up. Do you guys have any suggestions? I purchased the bike used and it had this headlight already installed.

That is an aftermarket generic socket, the wire colors are not correct for a Harley.
Low Beam= Yellow
High Beam=White
Ground= Black
Harley has been using this color wiring for headlights for at least 50 years.
Trace those wires on the socket back to where they are spliced into the bikes wiring, splice in the new socket using the correct wire colors and proper gauge wire.
Use a quality butt splice or solder the wires, and cover with head shrink tube.
