Default Starting in gear

I just bought a 2016 Heritage Softail with 103inch engine. The bike will only start in neutral,I get nothing when bike is in gear. When parking I always leave it gear to prevent rolling and put it neutral when starting, but would like to be able to start quick sometimes if it's a safety issue.I'm thinking neutral safety switch or the switch at the clutch.

Probably the clutch switch. It’s a common problem on the M8s. Maybe so on yours. If in warranty, take it to the dealer. Or try spraying some dry Lube in the switchbarea, and active the clutch lever a bunch if times. I did this, and it’s been fine for several 100 starts.

big brother has decided that harley and their clientele can not walk and chew gum at the same time so in order for one not to hurt oneself, must go through a pre-op check before starting. in the olden days when common sense abounded, there was no need.
do not dismay, even lawn equipment is effected.

In the olden days (when common sense abounded, yeah right) is when many of the accidents occurred...

Clutch safety switch, somewhere in here is a short video showing you where to shoot a little lube to help with that. And no you can't wire around it I already looked into that.

well mr. d hard to compare since you have more riders on the road now but:

forest gump once said "stupid is what stupid does" and "you can not fix stupid". wise words are they not.
in the past, we had what some called thunder roads where we gathered in a secluded area on a not very used road and did our thing other than that, was on a track.
today, stupid rides neighborhoods at breakneck speeds and damn the kids that get in the way, hell had one shot to death in front of my driveway.
what about stupids that ride one wheel down the highways damn the hell anyone else.
back when, kids were not just turned loose, there was parental training and that included driving, hunting and work ethics.
what about the stupids that drag a lawn mower over their foot, can't fix stupid so big brother adds some kind of device to protect stupid, not common sense!! answer this: why does it take a 5hp mower to do the same job of a 1.5hp mower of yester-year???

all it take is some stupid to make it hard for the rest. ABSOLUTELY zero of my crowd ever ran over themselves!!
so in a way i guess your are right, it now is the norm and NO ONE knows any better.
