Default Rear Lights Question, Is The Dealer Correct or..

It was time for the wife's 2015 Deluxe 15K check up. The appointment is today and we dropped it off this morning. Along with the scheduled maintenance her lights started having issues last time out. We were riding and I was behind her. Suddenly I thought she was braking but she wasn't. Since we purchased her bike the tombstone rear light and the two red signal lights burned steady, brake and signal. It has operated that way since day 1. I was glad it did because I would have installed the run, brake, turn module if it had not as I do that with all my bikes. Back to the problem. Her brake lights stayed on until we arrived at the destination. I thought maybe the plunger was stuck so I messed with it but the front brake plunger was working fine and that did not seem to be the issue. On the way home suddenly the two signal lights went off and the tombstone went to run instead of brake. I started working like it had no module. It did the same this morning on the way in.

I explained to them what happened and the service writer told me the module often goes bad, I agreed, I have had them go bad before. I just got a call and they told me that the bike does not have a module and the lights are working like they should. I asked why they have been run, brake, turn since the day we got it 3 years ago until last Sunday and he told me it was because it was throwing a code. I asked what code and he said that there was short in the brake lights. I was not satisfied with the answer because it sounds like bullshit to me. Anyone have a clue??

Well I agree with you, there has to be a module installed for the lights to operate as brake/turn/run configuration, the guy just didn't know where it was.

Thanks for the reply. Never did get to the bottom of it but for $67 she left the shop with run, brake, turn again. It was worth the $67 to put the whole thing behind me.

Another tech found it and replaced it, since the first tech said it didn't exist they couldn't charge you for the parts. I would check the main harness connection to the rear sub harness that is usually where those modules get plugged into.
