Default 1996 Road King FLHRi rear blinkers

Anyone ever tried to convert the rear blinkers to turn, run, stop or just run and turn signals?

We make a couple of modules that you can install on your Road King and convert your turn signals to running, brake, and turn lights.

Does your Road King have the standard HD plugs on the main wiring harness under your seat? Those plugs were made standard on the touring bikes in 1997, but sometimes we'll see a 1996 with them.

Assuming you don't have the plugs, I would recommend getting the universal versions of our Smart Triple Play and our Signal Stabilizer. Splicing these into your harness will give you run/stop/turn on your rear signals, and there's also a strobe built into the Triple Play, so that you can have your brake lights flash when you're stopping.

Nope, my harness doesn't have the plugs, it's an early model. There are only two wires running to the rear turn signals, 1156 bulb. I was trying to avoid cutting wires, if I do I'm going to solder them back. Just looking for an easy fix.

There should be 3 connectors under the seat area with one side going to under the rear fender. If there isn't then someone cut out the connectors and spliced the wires.

Mine is a "1996" FLHRi Road King. I only have two wires running to each 1156 bulb on turn signals, how can 1156 bulb be a run, stop, and turn? this smart triple play module can do that?

@Troy992
Yes, the Smart Triple Play will add Run and Brake function to the rear Turn Signal wire so that your rear Turn Signals will function as Run, Brake, and Turn! This module also allows you to strobe your rear lights on brake. You would need to change your rear Turn Signals to Red to meet DOT compliance.

The Smart Triple Play will come with Posi-Tap and Posi-Lock connectors to help with installation. You will also need to install a Load Equalizer/Signal Stabilizer to balance to load when using the Smart Triple Play.

The Smart Triple Play devices are designed for 1156 bulbs rather than the 1157's.

The way the Smart Triple Play module does this is by running a constant low-voltage current on the positive wire running to the 1156 bulb. This illuminates the bulb as a running light. Then, when when you brake or indicate for a turn, the Triple Play kicks the voltage up to 100% on that wire, allowing the bulb to light all the way as a brake light or a turn signal. The Triple Play also prioritizes turn signals over brakes, so if you are braking and indicating for a turn at the same time, the turn signal will come through.
