Default Streetbob not starting! Terminals melted!

I put in a new battery a couple weeks ago and it was working fine for a couple days. Tried starting it the other day and it wouldn’t turn over. I started smelling a burning scent and saw that the terminals were melted. ?!?!?!

Remove your main fuse as per your owners manual, then your battery and start investigating. Remove seat and any panels, to give best access.

The first place I would start looking is the battery cables themselves, usually terminals melting is a sign of high resistance in the battery cables due to corrosion.

This really sounds like the terminals were dirty or not tightened enough and/or the terminals or cable ends are corroded, possibly on both ends. Finding and fixing this should not be difficult...maybe expensive, though. You might need to replace the damaged cables and battery if the terminals are destroyed. Did you take any photos of the damaged terminals before you took it apart?

This is almost always the result of a loose or dirty connection. Any additional resistance in the connection can cause the melting to occur.

While poor connections will melt termainals for sure. Make sure you don't have a sort from messing with the battery cables.

I had the same thing on my x-bones, loose positive cable, the fix was a new battery and moving cable from side mount to top mount (less vibration). Check em monthly like you should your tire pressure.
