Default 2005 sportster handlebars - 8 wires out of handlebar, 6 in wiring diagram

Putting new handlebars on and need to run some extra wire - wiring diagram shows 6 wires, when 8 wires are coming out of handlebars. I have 2 orange/white and 2 white/black...can anyone explain? Are they interchangeable?

Are you running new or extending?Just tag the wires and where they went.
Extend and retag them, then put them back where you disconnected them from.
It won't matter what they're for.

Im extending the wiring, and well, like an idiot, I cut the existing connection assuming all wires would be different on the inside and rerouting would be easy. What’s more interesting is the harness extension I bought matches the colors to a T, but doesn’t include the 2nd orange/white and white/black

Well in case anyone else ever has the same question, I reconnected everything and it could be first luck but no issues bike fired right back up, still unsure if you can cross wires without an issue

If you cut the O/W wires & the W/BK wires closer to the switches, then you would have 8 wires. The 2 O/W wires merge into 1 O/W wire inside the harness between the switches & the connector, The same is true for the W/BK wires.

Ahhhhh that makes sense, I didn’t read/interpret the wiring diagram that way, but now I know for future reference. Thank you for the confirmation.
