Default Handlebar Controls/ebay

I recently bought a “cheap” set (left &right) of eBay handle bar controls for the 06 Night Train. The wire colors do not match up with the factory wiring harness. I have a factory service manual with the wiring diagrams.
Do any of you know or have experience with matching up the correct color wires coming off the controls to the factory harness?

Easy to do. Look at your wire diagram and find the diagram of the right hand control. The diagram shows what the switch is (turn, run/stop, start) so find turn switch, and follow the lines to where they go in the connector. Tape a tag on the end of the wire at the connector. An example - W/BN is White with Brown stripe. GY is Grey. After going cross-eyed with the diagram, tape tag the new control wires ANS double and triple check yer work. Satisfied? Cool, now de-pin the wire connectors from the OEM units and plug in the new ones. Like before, mark which pin position each wire connector came out of. Done? GOOD, now set yer *** down and have a cold one, ya deserve it.

TST, thanks for the instructions and motivation to get started. My weak area has always been electrics. I’ll let you know how it works out.

In addition to the confusion I’m having with the wiring, the “cheap” controls did not come with a wiring diagram. I can determine the colored wires that connect to each switch. The issue I’m having is that I do not know which wire goes to power and which one goes to the actual part.

Use a volt/OHM meter to ring out the switches. Then you know what wires on the switch are being used.

If I understand your question correctly, you have identified the 2 wires that go to a particular switch, and you are concerned about which of these 2 new wires goes to which of the 2 factory harness wires.

Electrically speaking, there is no difference at the switch. The wires could be flip-flopped and the switch will still operate as a SPST (single pole, single throw).
It gets slightly more complicated if the switch in question is a DPST or a DPDT.

Just use a meter to confirm that you are using the correct wires at each switch and you should be fine.
I like to make temporary connections first to ensure that I account for all wires, then I make up a harness to switch wire cross reference chart something like this:
H-red -- S-Orange
H-black -- S-black
H-yellow -- S-blue

Etc.

This helps make sure everything is correct.
When finished, I save the chart w/ other maintenance records for future reference.

Thank you, your answer helps a lot. I’ve spent the morning making detachable wire connections.
