Default 1987 FXLR turn signals

I recently purchased a 1987 FXLR, and the turn signals flash. However, I must hold the turn signal button for them to flash. The turn signal button does not "lock", allowing the turn signals to flash until the button is "unlocked". Does anyone have a resolution for this situation? Has anyone else experienced this? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is normal behavior on the 87 models. If you want to change it there are several manufacturers out there that make a module to take care of this.

Here's a good one

Does the statement, "This is normal behavior on the 87 models", mean that it was designed to function in this manner or that this is a normal failure for 87 models?

Thanks,

B

the turn signals were designed to operate this way on these bikes. Your options are;
1. get a HD turn signal module and have a lot of fun wiring that up, or
2. get an aftermarket turn signal module that is easily wired into you system.
