Default Crane HI-4E/8-3100 (7-pin module wiring)

This is a bit tricky so I will give as much detail as I can. Bike is a 1998 FLHTCU-I and will convert EFI to S&S Super E, Crane Fireball HI-4E (8-3100), single-fire.
Question: The Crane (8-3100) uses the 7-pin "cannon" connector which I plan to change to 8-pin deutsch connector on the harness I put together.

7-pin "cannon" connector (Crane 8-3100)

1-grey
2-red
3-black/white
4-black
5-pink
6-green/white
7-red/white

8-pin ignition module connector (carb, from 1998 FLH Harley Manual)

1- W/BK (coil /rear ) + (engine on/off switch)
2- BK/W (cam sensor C)
3- R/W (cam sensor A)
4- PK (coil /front ) and (Tach)
5- GN/W (cam sensor B)
6- V/W (VOES #1)
7- BK (VOES #2) and to (ground stud)
8- no wire

Cannot find 7-pin to 8-pin adapter here in Japan and would need to order from the states really jacking up the price of an already overly-priced part. 90-94 wiring diagrams that I have seen don't list pin numbers and colors are different from module. I need to know the Harley 7-pin module pin# to position

I have the same problem.
You would think there would be a diagram available showing each if the colored wire functions that go into the 7 pin plug.

Has anyone wired a Crane Cams 4I-4E module?
I am looking for the function of each wire on a Crane Cams HI-4E module that goes into the 7 pin plug as I want to wire it directly without the plug.
The 7 wires are:
-Red
-Purple
-Blue
-Black
-Green with white
-Red with white
-Black with white

Sorry for the long delay in posting back but was away for a while. Found two PDF's from Harley, "Ignition Module" -J00066 for & "Ignition Module Adapter Wiring Harness Kit" -J00067 designed for 1983-1990 models.

PDF #J00066 1983-1990 (Original 7-pin module)
1. Blue - Ignition coil negative (-)
2. White - Ignition coil positive (+)
3. Black - Ignition sensor plate connector
4. Black - Ground to battery and or frame
5. Violet - Vacuum-operated electric switch (VOES)
6. Green - Ignition sensor plate connector
7. Red - Ignition sensor plate connector

PDF #J00067 1984-1990 (Late 7-pin Adapter wiring harness/ module wire color)
1. Pink - Ignition coil negative (-)
2. White - Ignition coil positive (+)
3. Black/White - Ignition sensor plate connector
4. Black - Ground to battery and or frame
5. Violet/White - Vacuum-operated electric switch (VOES)
6. Green - Ignition sensor plate connector
7. Red - Ignition sensor plate connector

8-pin Deutsch 1998 FLT Manual (also 1997 Softail) dual fire
1- W/BK engine stop/run switch and (+) on coil
2- BK/W "c" on cam position sensor
3- R/W "a" on cam position sensor
4- PK (-) on coil and tach
5- GN/W "b" on cam position sensor
6- V/W term (+) on VOES
7- BK ground and (-) on VOES
8- blank (no assignment)

Crane HI-4E 8-3100/ 8-3101 have an additional two wires from module for use in Single-Fire only
Brown to the tach
White to the rear coil (-)

Please refer to Crane Cams Hi-4E 8-3100 /8-3101 PDF which shows color codes for single and dual fire configurations

My 1998 FLH (EFI) died yesterday, starts but no spark and went through as much as I could without all the overpriced Harley diagnostic meters to no-avail. Will do the EFI to carb conversion I've peiced together over the year as I'm tired of dealing with compenents I'm forced to repair in a garage and not on the road! When the Magneti Marrelli is in a good mood she's not bad but I would like the extra power out of a Super E and serviceability factor is a big plus when your on a cross-country trip.

This coincides with the info from Harley which Crane should have to follow if it is to connect properly. (Please refer to my previous post for references)

Crane HI-4E #8-3100 (7-pin Cannon)

1. Blue(?) - coil (-)
2. Red - coil (+) Run/Stop Switch
3. Black/White - Ignition sensor plate (C terminal)
--------------------------------------
4. Black - Ground (optional VOES (-)
5. Violet(?) - VOES (+)
6. Green/White - Ignition sensor plate (B terminal)
7. Red/White - Ignition sensor plate (A terminal)

Brown - Tach
White - Rear Ignition coil (-)

This would indicate that not all 7-pin Cannon and 8-pin Deutsch posts correspond by pin #.

my guess (D=Deutsch / C=Cannon)
C pin 1 to D pin 4
C pin 2 to D pin 1
C pin 3 to D pin 2
C pin 4 to D pin 7
C pin 5 to D pin 6
C pin 6 to D pin 5
C pin 7 to D pin 3

TonyCap, could you take a picture showing the wires entering the back of the 7-pin Cannon connector. Would like to see the wire positioning

Wink

Thanks to everyone for all the replies.
I was able to get a diagram of the 7 pin connector wiring from Crane and have attached the diagram to this post.

Tony, it seems I lack sufficient privileges to access your wiring diagram! I was wondering if you could pass it along by email.

thanks, Dave
