2012 Oil Consumption

I was just curious about how much oil my engine should use. I asked a friend who has a 2011 103 and he said his uses oil and didn't think anything of it. Reason I ask is normally we don't like to see that when we check the stick on our vehicles. The last 2 metrics I had didn't use any but I was wondering if that's because they were water cooled. It appears mine uses about 2oz. in 200 miles of 70-80 mph. BTW I'm using 15W50 Mobil1 and my bike is completely stock.

Thanks in advance.

2 ounces in 200 miles = 1 quart in 3200 miles, or a quart between changes. I would consider that excessive for a motor I built but, truth be told, it's not unusual or abnormal oil consumption.

Thank you. It's probably less than 2oz/200 but I guess they all use oil somewhat and mine is probably in the normal range.

Check it after 1000 miles.

Beeze, next oil change, go synthetic.

If your running it at the full mark (hot check) try running it in the mid range and see if you notice a difference.

That's the mark I was trying to maintain ynots. Maybe I'm being too fussy and with cold weather coming in I won't really be able to make an honest evaluation anymore this year. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with my engine and others may use more but from what I see they all use oil because they are air cooled and that's what air cooled engines do.
