Default Stripped

Friend of mine was buttoning up his install of the SE cam chain tensioner plate on his 2003 Anniversary 88 inch. The torque wrench was set at 100 inch labs and the threads in 2 holes stripped before reaching full torque. One hole is for the cam plate itself and the other is for the cover. Because of the wall thickness, I'm not sure these can be drilled and retapped. Any info/ideas are appreciated and thanks in advance.

As Kirby says, you can use a Helicoil to repair the threads in both holes; the exception would be if the hole for the cam plate fastener is the one at the locator dowel. I have stripped that hole before and I ran the next size tap through that hole, 5/16" IIRC, enlarged the hole in the cam plate for the larger fastener and it worked fine.

Never considered helicoils, but they look like a good fix. Thanks.

Just use caution when breaking the tab off the heli coil so it doesn't get lost in the cam chest. Did you follow fastening sequence when doing the install?

Timeserts are another option and easier to use or a "novice" ... Good Luck with your scooter.
