Default SE Sage IV lifter question

2015 Limited Low.

Stage IV with SE 585 cams, SE perfect fit pushrods, SE lifters. Having lifter noise when cold. Been thinking of S&S Premium. Would the pushrods be good or should I use S&S? I do all my own work and really not an issue using either adjustable or perfect fit.

Thanks in advance for the input

If you said you were having lifter noise when it’s hot I would suspect the lifters but cold probably not. How long does the lifter noise last?

S&S lifters and Adjustable pushrods.

Those heads are going to transmit some serious clatter also.

I could definitely be a bad lifter making the noise on cold start up...it's because it's bleeding down and there's no oil in it until the bikes running for a bit...I know because it happened to me..twice lol. As for the s and s lifters I'm using the standards and let think a lot of people do to with no issues. If you feel the need and have the extra money then get the premiums...for me I figured I could get the standards and adjustable pushrods for a little bit more money than just the premiums alone.

Noise takes about 30 seconds to go away. I am thinking a lifter bleeding down also. Looks like S&S premium lifters and adjustables are the next project...thanks

Default Se lifter are crap

Had 2 different sets of Harley lifters both tapped. The last set c series were even worse than the b s Best move I made was getting a set of s&s standards Both lifters I tried of the Harley ones were used with adjustable push rods set to .140 which is 3 turns on se rods. The last set of c lifter clacked like crazy cold or hot. When hot once and a while at idle they were so bled down rockers hammered unless u hit throttle. Put a set of s&s. Talk about quiet all I hear now is whirling sound of engine. The hole for oil indeed on the c lifter is about half the size of oil inlet on the s&s lifter. Get a set of s$s lifter. Adjustable push rods. Just find out what thread pitch per inch they are made with the s$s rods may not be 3/8X24 pitch like se ones

We found that .140" spec years ago, talking into account good lifter load even at full thermal expansion.

3.5 turns will get you .140
