Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
so my top end is just plain worn out, lower end is in great shape, stock wheel in std cases.
here is the plan, woods 6h bump stick, and woods evo lifters, s&s super stock heads 2.000 inch intake valves and 1.605 inch exhaust valves,
roller rockers, pistons, with 10.1 cr, the funky looking s&s ones, sticking with 80ci, and my super E, pipes to lsr 2/1 pro stock challange.
Thanks Scott for the reply, I have learned a great deal from reading your posts.
My concerns with anything over 10.1 this far down south with its heat and humidity is the dreaded detonation.
Around here much over that timing has to be taken out to get it to stop, so I have never gained much going over 10.1 even that can be a challenge mid summer, last build was 10/1 cr with a viper 565vp, fun up top but not in traffic, would detonate with points, so went electronic ingntion and sorted it out.
It's not the mechanical compression, but rather the cold cranking compression.
The camshaft intake closing number will be the tell-tale factor.
Peel the Wood back to 10.6.
BTW, we can have your existing Evo castings rockin' as well.
Scott
Well I have looked into the 8 cam , very impressive dyno sheets out there that's for sure, but in playing with the numbers, want to keep cold cranking compression around 190, the 6h will be at 193 ish with the superstock heads and pistons, working my old heads to 10:6 puts me a tick under 200 cold cranking compression, this far south and at sea level I would have a ping moster, and have to take so much timing out don't think i would gain much, got a deal on the heads, 800$ new, springs have a seat pressure of 170, and will do a 640 lift so should work with the 6h as is. should flow plenty for an 80 ci , we shall see.

We have ran the 8 at 10.8 cr with OEM 3.37 gearing in FXR's for individuals that belong to a VERY large motorcycle club, and other folks for some time now.
Tuned correctly, and not loading the engine, it seems just fine.
