Default Breakin miles?

I had the stage 5 110 bolt on kit installed in Oct. H-D mechanic says I need to put 1500 miles on it before I can have a full dyno. He is very conservative when it comes to engine work. He said not get it above 4200 RPM for first 500 miles. Change oil and I can run it at any RPM after that for 1000 more miles then bring it in to get it dynoed. Seems to me if I can run it as hard as I want to after 500 miles then it really could be put on the dyno. Dyno cost was in price of Eng. install. How many miles has everyone else been told to put on their bikes after having new pistons, heads and cams installed.

2012 Road King Classic
Stage 5 Pro 110 bolt on kit.
10:5 compression forged pistons
CNC heads
585 S-E cams
8300 miles on it right now, Have put first 500 break in miles on it already.

I've had all my bikes broken-in on the Dyno before leaving the shop that has done the installation. The run environment is completely controlled so there is not much to fret over.

I too find it strange that the builder wouldn't want to break it in and tune it under his own controlled conditions on his own dyno...

One of the best engine builders in the country told me with my 107" to ride it in a normal fashion for 250 miles and change the oil and filter and run it like you stole it.

Thanks guys I guess I will take it back in and tell him I want to go ahead and get it dynoed. Already have the first 500 miles on it and since the weather here in Ohio has been warm enough to still ride I can take it in without having to trailer it.

It sounds like you are located close to me. Where are you taking it for your tune?

It's very simple, do you want to ride your bike those first crucial miles in an out of tune condition or would you rather have it broken in on dyno in controlled conditions while reading every available sensor.?

I'm in southwest Ohio near Dayton. I'm taking it to Richmond Harley Davidson in Ind. They have done great work on family and friends bikes. The price of the dyno was include with the engine build. If I'm not happy with the tune I'll take it somewhere else but they have had some good results.
