Exclamation Need help. FXDX blown cam bearings (obviously ) blown oil pump

Just bought a 2001 super glide for a real song . It appears to have (one) inner cam bearing blown to bits . Roller bearing journals are OK.

Don't know much about the bike . It came with a box of parts including adjustable pushrods ..

The Oil pump impeller is blown to bits. I can only assume a roller from the bearing got caught in the pump.

Now my questions : I would like to avoid a full case split but I will do what needs to be done. Can anyone speculate what event caused this damage. Is there likely debris all through my motor? Is it possible this event caused the Piston to smash a valve?

Can I flush the crank case , replace the roller bearings and buy a high flow oil pump? Haaalp. Not sure what to do .

My guess would be a hardened bearing roller created that pump issue.
When a new pump is installed, and any of that leftover debris gets in there again, you'll see semi-similar or the same.
You may also see evidence of that on the piston skirts.
Good idea to check pinion shaft T.I.R. while your there.

With the pump and bearing coming apart splitting the cases and doing a full over haul would be the best route to go. Investing in only fixing what you can see may leave stray debris to continue ruining new parts and causing more labor down the road.

Thanks for the replies . I have the bottom end removed and split sure enough few chunks of roller bearing below the crank. Thanks for saving me from my lazyness . Could their be any more metal elsewhere maybe in the reservoir?

Insure the oil tank is free of debris also.
