Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. I have an S&S engine and have no problems starting it. It sounds as if your automatic decompressors are not working properly. I recommend you talk to your S&S supplier for help solving this, it is probably something very simple.

All ***** 1.7 starter, and Antigravity 24 cell lithium battery.
Push the button and smile....or put in EZ start S&S cams....

In all situations like this, always insure the battery is in very good condition first, then work outward from there.

Compufire is part of a conglomerate http://www.pertronix.com/ that owns Spyke (your current 1.4), compufire and many more electric brands.
Never tried that particular starter but as said, it starts with a strong battery that doesn't drop hard at first hit, then work from there.
If you want a bad *** 2.0 starter, the Tech Tornado is the ticket but it goes hand in hand with a real strong CCA battery.
If you can't afford or don't want the lithium I mentioned, Odyseey has upgraded their battery line up and improved their longevity. Since its a bagger, you could run a pc925, or even a pc680. They are just so damn heavy though, but maybe you don't care.

What ignition are you running?
Have you set it to delay a couple revs till firing?

Your set up as installed is not what I would run for a 124", and I have run several big motors on the street.
It's not just firing in your garage, but hot heat soaked restarts out somewhere in the summertime and consistent reliability that is the ticket.
I have tried everything, including running two batteries, so I have played this game for a long time....

350cca is too small a battery you need at least 450 for that beast.

Once my S&S 107" was run in the starter clearly had an easier time turning it over, but as mentioned already, your new engine will require a lot of power to turn over, both from the battery and the starter. I agree that it sounds as if your set-up is not up to the task of giving your new engine a reliable start in life.

I agree that it's probably a battery issue. You need more CCA for that motor.
