one question
how do you keep the bearing from spinning in the case as it goes in ?
or does it the tool spin on the bearing face ?
seems like there may be some binding

You'll find that when pulling the bearing, as you apply more & more pressure..... there's like a moment where time stands still, the earth stops rotating, dems and reps get along, you think something is going to break, then..... POP it comes free lol.

But as it goes in? the critical part
perhaps putting the bearing in the freezer for a few hours prior would help ease it ?

I have this really cool bearing puller/installer. It's this all in one tool that someone was making a while back and selling them here and on HTT I believe. I purchased it about 6 years ago and have used it 3 times and it works like a champ. For the life of me I can't remember who the hell was selling them though.

You're overthinking this. Relax. This procedure has been done thousands of times with no issues.

That would be Gary Beatty's tool.

Always a good idea. Freeze bearing and liberally apply assembly lube to bearing and boss. Not a "have to" but it will facilitate the bearing install and helps to avoid getting the bearing started in crooked.
