If you're going to 98", you'll need the headwork.

If you're only doing the cam, stock will work.

Either way, you'll be pleased.

S&S responded to my email and suggested this package.

"100" Power Package for HD® Twin Cam 88® Models with 585 Easy Start® Chain Drive Cams - Wrinkle Black"

I am aware they have product to move but has anyone used this kit?

I beg to differ with S&S,(great folks over there, btw) but you will not like that 585 in a touring bike, as low-mid torque is paramount.
A .570 at 10.0 cr would be better, but not anything like Andrews 21, if going step, by step.
If going to a 98" initially, an Andrews 26 would be our choice.

I agree with scott,585 are more of a "hot rod",higher RPM cam set,the 570`s are a good all around cam or the 583`s if your looking for low end grunt

I've been calling around and getting quotes, suggestions, and tips from various places including some of the sponsors here. Lots and lots of info. Good news, options are plentiful! Bad news, everyone has something different to offer/suggest.

Ugh

Not blowing off those on here I have been in contact with via email I want to throw two setup options out there for your thoughts.
1- Fuel Moto 98" Big Bore kit. This kit comes with all required components to upgrade to chain driven cams with the hydraulic tensioners. Woods 555 cams made for this conversion kit, as well as the cylinders and pistons of course. They also offer headwork. Their cylinders are OE bored out or I can upgrade to ones that are reinforced with a liner of some sort. They have a core system where I can send them my parts AFTER I receive theirs so downtimes are limited to the install. They also offer their Jackpot 2 into 1 exhaust as a package deal with a powervision which is attractive.
Problem is I'd have to twist someone's arm to get them to install parts I bring to them.

2-a local Indy wants to set me up with a Feuling kit. Hydro tensioners and fueling plate and pump. Reaper 543 cams. Feuling lifters. A 98" kit. Stock pushrods. D&D exhaust and a thundermax tuner. This Indy is also going to set me up with powder coating so I can black out my chrome and having this done at the same time makes this attractive. Out the door All for slightly under twice the cost in just parts for option 1.

Option 1 I'd have to install myself to justify the benefit in price difference but that's a wholenother bag o worms.

Any thoughts?

At least a 1.900" intake valve and a good valve job, performed, say, on our Winona Van-Norman PH2000.
If going with a 98" out of the gate, vs, a step by step approach, then an Andrews 26, set at 9.65 cr.
HUGE power increase, right where a heavier touring bike can use it.

This is why hillside recommended going with the 1.7 rockers. mild for now (doing just cam) then if you want to later upgrade for more power (98 amd head work) you can get higher ratio rockers to increase lift and be compatible with the bigger build. This way your not wasting money by having to buy cams twice.
