Default Tight valve train

I have a 07 road king stock 96 with 46k on it. I got a 103 kit from my local Harley dealer. Jugs, pistons, cams and clutch spring plate. After assembly the valves chatted very loud. The cams are 255's so I got kibblewhite .600 springs. Now the engine is very tight. Do I need to get adjustable push rods, roller lifters? Anyone have any ideas?

What do you mean by tight? Noisy valve train? Do you have the double wound KBs? Those with the 255s will be noisy. Might be able to quiet it down a little with adjustables and lifters set at about .140

Did you start it up, hear the "chattering" & shut it down? If so that's your problem... you need to run it a few minutes to get oil into the lifters & the top end.

Default Tight

I have the bee hive springs. I changed the stock springs with kibble white .600 lift ones. I haven't ran it now. It turns over really hard. I'm tearing it apart to check the clearance at the valves.

With stock heads and a .045 hg your corrected compression is around 9.5 pushing 200 ccp. You'll probably need compression releases. Run a compression test.

If the lifters are not pumped up, the intakes are closing early, making high cranking pressure.
Remove plugs, ground the plugs wires and spin it over a few times for 15 seconds, letting the starter rest in between.

With the 255's and 103", you may sometimes have hot start problems without compression releases

I would suggest a set of adjustable pushrods, loading the lifters to .140".
