Default 96 and TW555 Feedback

I'm starting to consider a cam swap for 2011 FXDF and have been trying to read up as much as I can.
I know the general reccomendation is to go for the Andrews 48 but I like to be able to rev out almost to the limiter.

From what I've seen on dyno charts it seems like the TW-555 should give me what I want but I keep hearing it's weak on the low end. What I'm wondering is if people feel like it's weaker than the stock cams in TC96 there or if it makes no improvement.
I'm willing to take no bump in the low end as long as it doesn't get weaker than the stock cams for the Mid-High increase the 555s provide.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The TW-555 has a 41 degree intake close, that's why it's "soft" down low as a bolt in. With an intake close 40 or later, you really need some more compression to keep the bottom end strong. I'd take a look at the Screamin Eagle 204, Black Widow BW55, and the Zippers Red Shift 527 cams as a bolt in cam to get you in the ballpark of the result you're seeking. The Black Widow would give you the most up top, followed by the 204, then the 527. But they should all be relatively close to each other.

What cody said is true for the TW 555 as a cam only swap. I ran the 555's in my 11 Road King with a 96, stock compression and stock heads, high flow A/C and a VH pro pipe. Yes it did make a difference over the stock cam over most of the rpm range but was better higher up and it was still doggy in my opinion. The 555's like compression and worked really well in my Road King when I went to 103 with 10.5 compression and ported heads. That bike made 104 hp and 114 tq. Be sure to get a good tune with whatever cam you choose.

Thanks for the input guys, they definitely seem like better cams for higher displacement and compression than what I currently have.

Funny enough, I had previously been looking into the SE-204 as it seems to have a pretty good power band for what I'm wanting. It just seemed like they're pretty difficult to find now.

I'll definitely have to look into the other two also. Thankfully I'm not in a huge rush to do this so I'm going to do all the research I can first.

I have a set of used SE204's I will sell ya, less than 1000 miles on them. Bought them for my 96" from a forum member on here, but traded my bike in before I ever installed them. PM me if your interested.

A suggestion would be to bore to 107", and install a set of S&S .570 EZ's.
Compression spot-on, cam increase, and cubic inch upgrade all in one fell swoop.

Scott's suggestion will deliver but keeping things in the context of a cam only upgrade, the 48 is always a good bolt in choice for a 96" motor and the other cams mentioned will be an improvement but none have an intake close event earlier than the OEM cams which is 30* and all will be relatively soft on the bottom end but not really noticed unless riding two up.

If the OP is just looking for mid range and up; the previously mentioned cams will deliver; however, if the OP wants to retain some bottom end he should check out the S&S 583.

As much as I know this would be a better long term option, I'm trying to convince myself to stick with just cams for now. Mainly just wanting to get a power bump while waiting for used M8 softails to start showing up at reasonable prices.

Interesting, those cams seem to have a pretty good power band also.
All this talk about the 48s may make me ultimately fall back on that option. I do about a 50/50 mix of lone and two up riding so I definitely don't want the low end any softer than it currently is.

Andrews 48's will show +/-, 90/100.
Great cam only choice.

I've been running the woods 555 cams for just over a year now in my FLHX with a 96". Other than a S&S Headpipe, slip-ons, and AN Big sucker, everything else is stock (as far as heads and compression goes). After auto-tuning it with a PV a few times and making some timing adjustments, I'm really happy with them. It was a great improvement over stock from bottom to top. I went with these cams just in case I wanted to go to a 107 kit (which was my plan) but as of right now, I'm content. I've not had it dyno'd so I don't have any numbers but the butt dyno registers a huge improvement.
