Looking for advice on my new build
 
Hi Folks,

I have been buying parts for this build over the last 6 months while the snow is flying (yes, I live in Canada) and should be ready to start the tear down next month when it starts to warm up a bit.

I've never done any mod this extensive before and am looking for any advice that the wisdom of this group can provide. What I am looking for is anything that I may have missed...Things that should be done because of the build/mileage/age of the bike (or just because it is apart) that I haven't thought of.

The bike is a 2008 FLSTC with about 70,000KM (43000 Miles).

What I have so far: (I went mostly with S&S bolt-on components so I can be fairly sure they'll work together)

S&S 107" Big Bore kit
S&S Cycle Super Stock Cylinder Head Kit 89cc
S&S Cycle 585CE Easy Start Camshaft Kit
S&S Cycle Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner Kit
S&S Cycle S&S TC3 Oil Pump & Camplate Kit
S&S Cycle Hydraulic Tappets
S&S Cycle Quickee Pushrod and Cover Kit
Zipper's ThunderMax with Auto Tune
Barnett Clutch Spring Kit

Already on the bike:
K&N air filter
V&H longshots (with O2 sensor bungs)

I have already bought most of the stuff in the list so changing out many components isn't really an option at this point.

Any suggestions or constructive criticisms are welcome.

If looking for best performance......Reducing the combustion chambers to 87 cc with a .030 head gasket will really make that cam shine with 199 psi ccp @sea level. I would get a good 2-1 exhaust.... What throttle body upgrades are you doing?

Cool, I'll order up the gasket and start looking for a 2-1 exhaust. I hadn't planned on any throttle body upgrades at this point. Not sure the budget can handle it this year...That being said, any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure you can bore your T-body for less than 200... well worth it when your increasing the size of your pump.... I know Scott@Hillside will do it...

ide bore your cylinders to 107" using CP pistons,use a power vision & get a HPI t. body (the $$ you save on the cylinder kit will pay for HPI unit)

This works, I followed Kirby's advice and was very impressed with my results

You're on a Softail. Don't go bigger than a 51mm from HPI It flows almost as well as the slightly less expensive SE58. You want to favor torque since you have a smaller power band to work in. Hell you could run the SE 50 and make decent numbers.

As to exhaust unless you bought a really old exhaust you didn't buy Longshots for a 2008 (for the past few years they've only sold them for 2000-2006 Softails) You have Bigshot Longs which have a nice crossover in them and will be more than sufficient for the amount of air you're moving at that displacement with that cam. You don't need a 2 into 1.

Since you already own the cylinder and piston kit from S&S ($929 retail last I checked) keep it. You won't save enough for the $650 HPi throttle body by returning it and buying $495 CP pistons and paying a reputable shop $300 to bore your cylinders.

Well Sir, you are correct. They are Bigshot Longs. (don't know why I had Longshots stuck in my mind) You are right about favoring torque too.

Good to hear that the exhaust will do for now at least. I may end up replacing it later this year for other reasons.

I had a look at the SE throttle bodies available for my bike and it looks like the only one that will fit my configuration is the SE50 unless I am missing something. If I don't have to replace the exhaust out of the gate I should be able to budget the intake.

The SE 50 is part number 27623-05A for $429.95 the SE58 is a two piece with the throttle body 27639-07B $449.95 and the manifold 29667-07 $99.95
The 50 includes bigger injectors, if you go 58 use injector kit 27797-07 $159.95
