Default Mikuni 42 replacing OEM '97 80 Evo

Would I notice much of a difference by mounting a Mikuni 42 on a stock 80 Evo without beefing up heads, pistons, cam. Running Vance and Hines pipes is the only thing I can see that is not stock.

If your current carb is set up properly, you won’t notice much if any difference. If it still has a stock air cleaner, replace with a high flow setup and tune for it. That’ll be the best bang for your buck.

Probably not.. One thing to note is that return springs on the Miks are a little stiffer. Better than stock AC is a good suggestion.

I agree, don't waste your money, assuming you have the CV40. Those are good up to about 100hp.

Thanks! I'm going to have to get into it at least down to the base gaskets as she's leaking oil that I can see bubble out. Anything under 5 Bills parts wise I could upgrade to create a little more torque? I don't really want to change the sprocket. Have looked at many upgrade set ups for more torque, but don't have 2k to spare for the parts at the moment. This Bike only has 34k original miles so I figure I can wait awhile. Actually runs very good other than the oil leak. I'm definitely not afraid to do my own labor. Have built 350 chevys and 4.3 V6's in the past as well as automatic transmissions. I'm just curious if I could gain a little more torque without breaking what little bank I have. Appreciate the responses!

If you want to pep it up, your best bet over a ac and filter is a mild cam. Those motors respond really well to a mild non smog cam. I'll let others figure out what cam is best. Only EVO motors I've messed around with were S&S.

FX, FD or FL.. Heavier bikes like the Andrews EV13, V-Thunder 3010. Lighter bikes the EV27. Definitely a huge improvement... Going to a .030" head gasket will also bump the compression 2 tenths. No need to change the carb. . And definitely need a more free flowing a/c. Best bang for the buck... There are others out there but these are the most common...

Your stock Carb is a pretty darn good one . Better off keeping it.

a mild cam & compression bump will yield much more than a carb change, the CV carb is by far the best carb installed from the factory HD has ever used

Appreciate that. Funny, I've got an EV27 waiting in an Amazon shopping cart, just continuing the research a bit until I pull the trigger. I figure since I need to replace the gaskets to repair the oil leak, may as well get the .030 head gasket while I'm at it. Thanks again!
