Brand new S&S MR103CE cam, packaged on 3/26/2018. This was the worst one. The other one wasn't too bad, it only had some chips in the teeth. :/

if they are new, then sloppy quality control, harmful, naw.
just go ahead and clean them up. after the pour, the profile is supposedly precision ground to spec's. this is just burn-over from the process.

i had considered it at first because I have the tools and some experience gunsmithing and metal working. Unfortunately, when I examined the other cam there were chips in the sprocket teeth. I've seen steel crack and fail and this set of cams just has too many red flags.

Fortunately they will take em back and refund. I might give S&S another chance but to be honest that kind of sloppy is disappointing from a joint I have looked up to for a very long time.

You made the right decision. If it were only a few burrs a little work with a Roloc disc would clean it right up, but the chips in the teeth are a different matter. S&S needs to own this--they're definitely better than that. Those cams should never have made it into a box.
