Default Crank Runout Help Please

Hello 2007 Street Glide 36,000 miles. Crank run out measured the traditional way shows less than .003 (picture on the right)

which is good I think? but when I measure movement by applying pressure in toward the case bearing with a bar, (picture on the left)
it shows .012 +/- is there a spec for that? Pictures attached to Illustrate.

why are you putting pressure on the case bearing?
Never head of that!!!
Where did you hear to do that?

Just use the measurement you get by rotating crank.......

MURPHCC1 I put pressure on the case bearing to see what kind movement there was. I am chasing a noise in the engine and have eliminated the top end.

This all started last year with the installation of an S&S bolt in 110 kit which knocked like hell because there was .006 clearance between the pistons and cylinders. I removed the kit and went back to my 103 set-up only to hear a different "knock". I was wondering if the 110 kit put something out of whack in the bottom end... so I started measuring run-out.

cant imagine what it might be.......I've never heard of puttin pressure on crank bearing and then measuring run out.........so.....dont know why you'd do that........
besides the crank bearing .....the crank is supported by the bearing in the cam plate.....

The SM says endplay should be less than 0.010 on the crank. I'm not sure if there's been an update on the spec.

If you honed the 103 used cylinders and tossed in new rings on the replace, it would not surprise me if you had a little piston slap. You really need to set up piston clearances on the tight side if you don't like the rattle.

Add:
Picture not too good for us old guys. Not sure what you are trying to do but it's probably bearing play coupled with flex. Bearing might be loose but you really want to move the indicator closer to the bearing if you want to measure bearing play.

You don't want to apply too much pressure to get a good reading.
