Default 4000 RPM high pitched tick

Hey all, decided to finally crack open my 09 ultra classic passed 4000 rpm. It was originally a 96ci but now is a 103 ci w 510g cams. Its been a 103 since Ive owned it & Ive always heard that the twin cam is a noisy engine so I expect that. But this was a very high pitched very light ticking only from 4000-4500 rpm. It made me a little gun shy so I backed off. I was bending down behind the batwing listening closely. Stage 1, screamin eagle slip ons...any thoughts appreciated, thanks!!

Sounds like top end noise. Have a look around my website, might be just what you need

We'd start by loading the lifter to .140".
That gentle-ramp S&S .510 should be almost whisper quiet.

I posted the specs on another forum & a builder suggested that 510 isnt the best choice for a 103. I believe he suggested a 570 I think it was? Also the 510 is gear driven, does that add to the noise??
thanks, learning as I go here.

.570 is better, but you currently have the .510, and it is what your working with
, and will produce decent power.

Yes she has plenty of power. Do u think a 25w-60 conventional oil would quiet things down? Im in Phoenix & its gonna be 100+ every day till like...september? Running 20w-50 bel ray mineral oil

I would advise you follow Scott's advice prior to starting to buy oils etc.

If i were going to change oils I'd go to Spectro 25-60 dino oil.... hands down the best I've tried when it comes to noise.

Service manual states 60W in ambient air temps north of 80*.
We have stocked Spectro Oils here, for almost 25 years.
The 25W60 is what we use often.
Good stuff.

great, thanks for the help! I see maxima, drag specialties & spectro brands in that viscosity. I always liked Maxima products, not familiar w drag specialties & Ive heard good things about spectro & $7/ qt is pretty reasonable.
