07 Ultra update.
Got the cam plate bolt out and reassembled bike with a functioning in/lbs torque wrench. Now I have a tapping in the motor that increases with slight throttle. I have 32psi oil press and I adjusted the push rods 3 turns (per instructions) with cylinder on TDC and waited for lifter to bleed down. Did this twice to each cylinder. Still has tapping noise. I also notice a slight oil leak on one of the tubes under the cap.I am going to inspect and see if I may have damaged an O ring. Any suggestions on the push rods? Should I go 3.5 or maybe 4 turns? 24 tpi. I have them at 4 turns. the noise stopped at idling. I have around 40 psi oil pressure. took the syn3 out of engine and put regular HD360 20w50 in it. Still have a tapping during throttle but it doesn't seem to increase.

At 4 turns with 24TPI, preload is about .165". General rule of thumb for preload is .135"-.140" for quiet valve train so more preload isn't going to help quiet things down. The oil change was good move, the HD20W50 is actually a good lubricant. What lifters? How many miles? Have you checked the rocker shafts for witness marks which would indicate movement and noise? A set of Rocker Lockers will solve that problem if it exists. What cams? Some with fast ramps are just noisy. Did you adjust with pistons at TDC on the compression stroke? Run all that to ground and if the noise persists, learn to live with it.

Sometimes, after a cam change it takes a while for the lifters to get happy again. It's not uncommon to hear that guys ride 5 miles before everything quieted down. Maybe it just needs time.
If the noise is upstairs, there's a cure for that
